Hankook is made in Korea and they are outstanding. I say quality is better than Michelin’s. I’m a mechanic and see lots of tires. Michelin’s product dry rots on sidewalls. This is my opinion.

I'm sure these guys mean well, but I'm not sure I can buy their so called "expert" opinions, especially given some of their comments. The one about all travel trailers trailers having chinese made tires on them so when there is a failure it is of course going to be a chinese tire. I'm sure most folks recall the huge bridgestone/firestone lawsuit  years ago when tires on ford explorers were "causing accidents". Not sure how many recall the outcome of that suit. It was determined that the tires that were failing were under inflated. My point is that we remember that because it was talked about a lot. But how often do you hear of issues with American made tires? The web is absolutely replete with story after story of chinese made tires on travel trailers failing prematurely. Lots and lots of stories with specific details about the failures and the damage they've caused. Some TT companies refuse to use China made tires. Jayco, for example, will use only Goodyear Endurance tires. If you compare the specifications side by side of the Chinese tires and the Goodyear tires, you'll also see that the max load ratings and speed ratings are far superior for the Goodyear. For instance, Castle Rock ST 225/75R15 tires are 8ply have a load rating "D" of 2540lbs at 65psi and a max speed rating of 75mph. Same goodyear endurance tire is 10ply "E" rating and has a load range of 2830lbs at 80psi and speed rating of 85mph. In addition, the China tire weighs about 10lbs less per tire. That should tell you something. At any rate, for my money, I'd rather spend the $450 now and replace the tires, than to risk having to spend $3500 in repairs later at risk of having an accident and still have to replace the tires.

Then explain to me: Why do my Chinese tires last no more then 60,000 miles and every time I use Continental it goes over 100k? Exactly…. So stop claiming that Chinese tires are same or even close.
Chinese tires may pass the regulatory requirements, but thats all its going to pass, limit is the requirement….
    Good Day.

It’s not where they’re made it’s how much R&D went into developing them.

Not many tires are manufactured in the U.S. anymore. Michelin is a French Company. Firestone are Japanese. Check a so called USA Tire Company and look on the rubber where they are made.

we have 4 snow tires from a name brand manufacturer and they are clearly marked made in china, these tires have been on our vehicle during the winter for the past 4 seasons, the dealership told us they will last for another season without an son has two chinese made snow tires on the front of his car and they are holding up much better than the tires that came with the vehicle so, my money has not been wasted.

********exactly american manufacturers are more greedy, then china made tires…. and how many so called american name brand tires are made in china and stamped with the american name on them… if you have four tires hitting the ground and are made with the same compound as the so called american tires i see no problems using chinese tires…. they have the same driving conditions in china as we have here in the U.S. and there are rules for the tires to be shipped here to the U.S. standards so why not go with the cheaper priced tires… unless you are driving 100 mph on a race track go with the more expensive tires for more supposedly safety reasons…. if you are driving 50 to 70 mph for normal driving… go with the cheaper priced tires…****

Always aim for the US, but had some korean and thailand brands – Sumitomo and Kumho and Hankook perform well. My Ford pickup came with factory korean hankooks, bummer for America. Coopers are solid and mostly US made. 4 Walmart brand tires on my jeep patriot, US made – look like cooper or goodyear and great pricing. Shop Tire They have incredible info on country of origin, date codes, diameters, widths, it is the bible of tire shopping. Nothing else like it for educated buying.
